Homologation (also called type approval) is the official recognition by a national regulator that a telecom or radio product meets the country's technical and spectrum requirements. Without it, equipment cannot be legally imported, marketed or operated.

Homologation vs Type Approval

Both terms describe the same national certification process. "Homologation" is the common term in francophone and lusophone Africa (homologation / homologação), while "type approval" dominates in anglophone markets and the Gulf — we cover both terminologies and both realities.

Is homologation mandatory before importing equipment?

Yes. In every market we cover, telecom and radio equipment must be homologated by the national regulator before importation and commercialization.

A product is already certified but the manufacturer's name has changed — is recertification needed?

Yes. If the manufacturer's name has changed, a new certificate is required — the existing approval cannot simply be renamed. We manage the new application end-to-end.

Does a hardware or software modification require a new certificate?

In many markets, yes. In Tunisia, for example, any modification to the hardware, software or reference of the approved sample requires a new approval certificate. We confirm per country whether your change triggers recertification or a simple update.
